View From A Canal by Simon Palmer
Simon Palmer is a leading British watercolour artist. His paintings are both spiritual and rustic in nature and are largely based around his home in Yorkshire. His work has a whimsical nature with sometimes puzzling episodes and hidden narratives. First and foremost however he is a landscape painter revelling in the shapes, patterns, colours and detail of the local north Yorkshire countryside. From the apparently familiar he has created an illusion which hovers on the brink of reality
Ink, watercolour, and gouache, 1998. All the hallmarks of Simon Palmer: the outsized trees; the carpet of leaves; the far horizon glimpsed through a bridge. Here we claim our spot above the picture, on a bridge; we look down upon the shimmering water. Three locks are ahead of us, and a stretch of seemingly endless canal. Light streams in from the right, creating shadows, and the foreground pool of water reflects with off-set symmetry the billowing clouds above. This is classic Palmer.
Artworks are limited edition giclee prints on high quality 310gsm thick, cotton rag. Hand numbered and hand-embossed.
