Cycling Home by Simon Palmer

£255.00

Simon Palmer is a leading British watercolour artist. His paintings are both spiritual and rustic in nature and are largely based around his home in Yorkshire. His work has a whimsical nature with sometimes puzzling episodes and hidden narratives. First and foremost however he is a landscape painter revelling in the shapes, patterns, colours and detail of the local north Yorkshire countryside. From the apparently familiar he has created an illusion which hovers on the brink of reality.

Watercolour, ink and gouache on paper, (1996). Original size: 66.0 x 59.5cm. This, in many ways, is quintessential Palmer and the depiction of an enchanting journey. We are Cycling Home and past a country junction. There’s a classic red ‘low bridge’ sign; a swooping delve and then the road ahead, edged by hedges and tall trees. And the light is that of a sun low in the horizon, low enough to cast shadows across the landscape through which the cyclist travels.Artworks are limited edition giclee prints on high quality 310gsm thick, cotton rag. Hand numbered and hand-embossed.
